We are pleased to provide advanced notice of the international
conference *Languages
in the Globalised World*, which will be hosted by the School of Languages
at Leeds Metropolitan University.****

 ****

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for teachers and
researchers who are interested in the exploration and exchange of research
findings, experience and perspectives in language teaching, language
learning and language skills development.  The conference is also expected
to be an international platform for the discussion of the usefulness of
multilingual literacy and multicultural competence in a globalised world.

It will bring together academics, teacher trainers, materials development
experts and students concerned with foreign, second or third language
acquisition in a multilingual environment. The conference will consist of
plenary sessions run by eminent guest speakers of a professorial rank, one
roundtable discussion and paper presentations of 20 minutes or posters,
which have been divided into six thematic areas. We welcome abstracts of
articles studying any language, spoken in any country in the world,
including minority and endangered languages.  Plenary speakers include
Professor Angela Creese of the University of Birmingham, UK and
Professor Myriam
Salama-Carr of the University of Salford, UK.****

*Call for papers*****

Papers of 20-minute duration and posters are mainly invited in relation to
the following non-exhaustive thematic strands:****

1. The contribution of languages in fostering intercultural dialogue;****

2. The role of the lingua francas in the XXI century;****

3.  The place of minority languages in a globalised world;****

4.  Bilingual and multilingual education;****

5.  World Wide Web and language learning;****

6.  Translation and interpreting in a globalised world.****

Abstract guidelines are enclosed.  Abstract proposals should be submitted
to *LGW at leedsmet.ac.uk* <LGW at leedsmet.ac.uk>*. * *The* *deadline for
abstract submission is 2 April 2012,* with final decisions on acceptance
being made by 21 May 2012. ****

*Costs and bookings*****

The registration fee for all delegates, including presenters is GBP195 per
person. It includes the conference pack, refreshments and lunch on both
days and one conference dinner.  The* registration deadline and conference
fee payment deadline is 6 August 2012*. Further details will be provided in
due course. ****
