The Faculty of Linguistics and Literature at the University of Bamberg,
Germany, invites applications for the position of Professor of Turkish
Studies (Turkish Language, History and Culture) as successor to
Professor Klaus Kreiser. The post is to be filled as soon as possible.
Salary will be commensurate with the customary remuneration for W 3
professors, with the status of lifetime civil servants. The
professorship will be affiliated to the new Faculty of
Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften (Humanities).
The successful candidate will be required to cover the field in great
width in teaching and research, with special regard to the modern period
and based on experience gathered in the relevant region. A high level of
Ottoman Turkish and active knowledge of modern Turkish are required.
Participation is expected in the current BA and MA programmes of the
faculty, and in developing further courses. Moreover, involvement will
be expected in academic administrational duties and in cultivating
international exchange programmes.
Requirements for appointment are a completed course of university
studies, teaching skills, doctorate and Habilitation (postdoctoral
qualification) or equivalent academic credentials in the field of
Turkish Studies. The additional academic qualifications can also have
been attained within the scope of a junior professorship.
At the time of appointment, the applicant should not yet have reached
the age of 53; exceptions may be made in exceptional circumstances (cf.
Article 10 § 3, sentence 1 and 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Law
(BayHschLG)).
The Faculty is committed to increasing the proportion of women engaged
in research and teaching and thus welcomes applications from female
academics. Applications from disabled applicants will be favoured in
cases of equal suitability for the job. Prospective applicants living
abroad who fulfil the requirements for a permanent position as a
professor in their home country are explicitly encouraged to apply. It
is a principal requirement for the position that the successful
candidate be able to speak German; however, in exceptional cases,
courses may also be offered exclusively in English for the first two
years.
Applicants are asked to send their applications (C.V. with a passport
photograph, list of publications, list of academic courses taught and
copies of academic certificates) in English or German by no later than
20 April 2007 to the Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature
at the University of Bamberg, P.O. Box 1549, 96045 Bamberg, Germany.
