THE PSYCHOLOGY OF VIOLENCE - CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION FOR
PARTICIPATION”
Violence constitutes one of the major public health issues of our era.
What are the theories explaining states of peace and violence among
individuals and communities? What is the scope and limits of
evolutionary psychology and sociobiology in explaining violence? What
definitions of violence do we have? Is violence inevitable? What can we
say about physical crime, war, prejudice and hostility, emotional
violence, torture and rape? Are there gender differences in the tendency
to exhibit violence? Does pornography increase violence? Violent
fantasies and the widespread violence on the screen and the media. What
can the study of psychopaths (said to be 1% in human society) show us in
understanding human violence? This session also aims to explore and
propose strategies for dealing with ethnic conflict, and the psychology
of different forms of violent outbreaks between communities. What are
the psychological foundations of “preventive diplomacy”? A critical
analysis and appraisal of experiences of conflict resolution strategies
are sought. Social consequences of the collapse of buildings and other
man-made accidents will also be examined. Please find updated
information as regards the meeting at the IFSSH website
