VIOLENCE AS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE - CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION FOR
PARTICIPATION”
Violence continues to be one of the leading causes of morbidity, injury,
disability and death among the young male population, particularly in
urban areas. Domestic violence is a significant, world wide problem.
What does social research tell us about the dynamics of violence against
women? Pregnancy and violence: why does the severity of emotional
violence increase during pregnancy? When does physical and sexual
violence decrease? Violence against children, adolescents and the
elderly – at home and in the streets. Violence in the office and the
work place. Structural violence. Emotional violence and the relationship
between different forms of violence and depression. Inter-generational
transfer of violent behavior. Torture as institutional violence. Health
conditions in prisons, violence in prisons including violence among
inmates. Violence and the role of the media. How does violence structure
and shape everyday life in different cultures? Hidden versus overt
violence. This session aims to view different forms of social and
individual violence and the context of violence. Violence as punishment,
as performance, space and aesthetics. This session aims to refine the
quality of the statistics gathered on perpetrators as well as victims of
violence. One of the objectives of this session is to realize proposals
for solutions for this growing public health concern. Social
consequences of the collapse of buildings and other man-made accidents
will also be examined. Please find updated information as regards the
meeting at the IFSSH website http://www.ifssh.net.
