THE FUTURE OF HOSPITALS AND PATIENT CARE- CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION
FOR PARTICIPATION”
This session invites papers that look at present day issues related to
hospitals and health institutions as well as the history of health
institutions. What challenges have taken place in the types of health
institutions and the relationship between communities and curative
health institutions? The size and management of hospitals. Changing
nature of patient-care giver relationships and hospitals and health
institutions as spaces and interactive environments for healing are
explored in this session. What more after Foucault? Dying: at home or in
hospital settings? Criteria for quality care. Home patients versus
healing in clinics. New concepts in special arrangements for giving
birth. New concepts in hospital architecture. Children’s hospitals.
Hospital waste. Social science research in hospitals. Spaces for
healing: the history of architectural designs of healing institutions.
Symbols and colors used in spaces of healing. Ethics in the setting of
hospitals and institutions of healing. Social consequences of the
collapse of buildings and other man-made accidents will also be

The International Forum for Social Sciences and Health (IFSSH) welcomes
applications from scholars, administrators, researchers, interested
parties, international agencies, national and international research
institutions and students for participation in the 2005 World Congress

health and disease; Life styles; Living with pain; Local traditions of
healing and shamans; New challenges: smoking, addictions and eating
disorders; Politics of pharmacueticals; Redefining old age; Reproductive
health; Social history of health and disease; Social science education
for health sciences; Sociology of dental health; Suicides and cross
cultural issues in mental health; The economics of well being; The
future of hospitals and patient care; The psychology of violence;
Violence as a public health issue; and Social aspects and prevention of
