Fantastic Cinema and National Identity
In addition to juxtaposing the natural with the supernatural, fantastic
cinema often foregrounds interchanges between the rural and the urban, the
traditional and the modern, the superstitious and the rational, the past
and the present. This panel explores how fantastic films employ these
relations in constructing and contesting national identity.
