Dear colleagues,
I would like to bring the following Greek publication to your attention:
Mneme Penelopes Stathe: Meletes historias kai philologias [Memory of
Penelope Stathe: Studies of History and Philology], eds Kostas Lappas,
Antonis Anastasopoulos, Elias Kolovos, Research Center for Medieval and
Modern Hellenism of the Academy of Athens & Institute for Mediterranean
Studies FO.R.T.H, Crete University Press 2010. 504 pages.
ISBN 978-960-524-307-4.
This is a memorial volume for Penelope Stathi (1947-2008), a beloved friend
and excellent colleague for many scholars in Greece and Turkey. She was born
in Istanbul in 1947 and settled in Athens in 1970, where she worked in the
Research Center for Medieval and Modern Hellenism of the Academy of Athens.
For many years she was an inspiring teacher of Turkish in Athens. Her
research focused on the Christian subjects in the Ottoman Empire, their
elites and their writings, the cultural interactions between Christians and
Muslims, the Turkish-speaking Christians of Anatolia (Karamanlides), and,
finally, her native city, Istanbul. The volume includes a biographical note
for Penelope and a full list of her publications.
The volume consists of 29 papers on history and philology by Penelope’s
colleagues and friends, in Greek and English (all Greek papers include short
summaries in English or French):
