An International Centre of Knowledge and Research

The International Hellenic University (IHU) is Greece's first state
university, where programmes are exclusively taught in English. It was
established in 2005 and its campus is situated in Thessaloniki. The
International Hellenic University (IHU) is divided into three
Faculties: The School of Economics & Business Administration, the
School of Humanities and the School of Science & Technology.

Our undeviating priorities are academic excellence, international
orientation, and practical conformity with the modern needs of the
international market.
The strategic mission of the International Hellenic University (IHU)
is to provide and develop research and knowledge equivalent to the
high-level international standards and, simultaneously, to promote -
through fruitful and successful procedures - the comprehension of
economic, social, political and technological issues that concern the
SE European region. Furthermore, IHU aims to create a vibrant
multi-national academic community, comprising both of students and
tutors, which will enhance interaction and co-operation between
different cultures and nations.

The School of Humanities

The IHU School of Humanities is offering its first postgraduate
programme, the MA in Black Sea Cultural Studies, which will begin in
October 2010.

This specific MA Programme is based on an interdisciplinary approach
to the study of the history and culture of the Black Sea region. Its
exclusive orientation towards the Black Sea studies is pioneering
among academic institutions in Greece as well as in the SE European
region. Among the main targets of the Programme is the in-depth study
and interpretation of the historical and cultural data of this region,
an area of increasing geopolitical and economic importance, which will
provide the student with an outstanding opportunity to specialise in a
research domain of such significance in our times.

The programme comprises of 12 months of full-time study. Its duration
is three semesters, of which the first two are taken up with taught
modules and the third is dedicated to the master dissertation. The
nine taught modules include four core, three stream core and two
stream elective modules. However, the programme provides the
possibility of part time attendance, which lasts 2 years. Studies will
focus on two principal areas (streams): a) Archaeology and History,
and b) Politics and Economy.

The programme promotes learning and teaching characterised by a
diversity of teaching methods and provides students with proficient
skills and knowledge of history and culture of the Black Sea region,
securing them a successful career in a variety of work environments
throughout the world, which focus on the Black Sea region and SE Europe.

Our graduates (depending on the stream they choose) will be able to work in:
  * Educational and research institutes and academies all over the
world dealing with the Black Sea region
  * Archaeological services, especially in the Black Sea countries (and
also in Greece), or foreign archaeological missions in those countries
  * Museums, galleries and other places of collection, study and
exhibition of works of art, especially from this region
  * The Diplomatic Corps or other state services
  * Businesses which operate or have interests in the Black Sea region
