*Job Description:*

The Sociology Program, SAPE Department, at the American University in 
Cairo invites applications for an open rank tenure track position to 
begin September 2011. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong 
background in sociological theory and research methodology and methods 
(expertise in participatory action research is considered a plus), and a 
specialization in one or more of the following areas: development and 
civil society (including community development), political sociology, 
social movements and public sphere participation (including youth as 
well as other groups), gender, family, stratification, population and 
health and/or medical sociology. Knowledge of the Arab world/Middle East 
is considered a plus.

*Requirements:*

PhD in Sociology is required at time of appointment. Teaching experience 
is preferred. Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of 
research and publication and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in 
teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate as well as graduate 
teaching in a joint Sociology-Anthropology MA program, an active program 
of research and publications, and service to the Department and the 
University.

Association's (ASA) Annual Meeting in August 2010 and the Middle East 
Studies Association's (MESA) Annual Meeting in November 2010; however, 
all candidates will be given full consideration. Short-listed candidates 
will be interviewed by video-conference in December 2010/early January 
2011..
