Title of Post                 : RSD Assistant (4 positions)
Category and Level            : National United Nations Volunteer
Duration                      : Initially one year
Location                      : Ankara and Van
Closing Date                  : 22 November 2009

Functions:
Under the supervision of the Refugee Status Determination (RSD)  
Officer, the RSD Assistant will:


Review the files of asylum seekers, assuring that registration is  
complete and that relevant documents are available and translated.
Conduct refugee status determination (RSD) interviews in the first  
instance in accordance with UNHCR?s Procedural Standards for Refugee  
Status Determination (PS).
Write assessments in accordance with the PS. The incumbent is expected  
to write 5 assessments per week.
Conduct relevant research on countries of origin.
Provide pre and post interview counselling to asylum-seekers and  
follow up on individual concerns, as necessary.
Qualifications:
University degree in law, political science, international relations  
or other relevant field.
Demonstrated familiarity with and knowledge of refugee and  
international human rights law.
Legal knowledge and the ability to apply legal principles.
Good analytical and research skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good drafting skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Cultural and gender awareness.
Respect for diversity.
Ability to work effectively under stress and in crisis situations.
Experience:  At least 2 years of relevant work experience. Interest  
and experience in humanitarian and refugee issues are desirable
Languages:
Required:  Excellent written and spoken English.
Desirable:   Any of the following: Farsi, Arabic, Kurdish, French, Russian
Computer skills : Good knowledge of MS Office programmes and Internet
Citizenship : Turkish
Age : 25 and above in accordance with UN rules for National UNVs.
