CONF./CFP- The Modern Person in Search of Their Spiritual Self, June, Almaty

The Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of Kazakh National 
University,
named in honor of Al-Farabi, will host an international academic 
conference on
15-16 June 2006 on the theme of:

The Modern Person in Search of Their Spiritual Self

Aim of the conference: Establishing foundations for the sources of the 
modern
person's spiritual quest.

Main topics of the conference:

  - Accessing the crisis of humanity at the start of the 21st century.
  - Humanity's condition: crisis of the soul and the search for the way out.
  - The modern person's spiritual quest: traditional religions and 
spirituality
without religion.
  - Fine Arts, technology and culture: beneficial or harmful to humanity?

Conference Working Plan:

1. Plenary Session (w/selected paper presentations).

2. Roundtable discussions: a) Discussion among specialists in philosophy
    regarding 'the crisis of humanity at the start of the 21st century'; b)
    Discussion among psychologists regarding 'Humanity's condition: 
crisis of
    the soul and the search for the way out'; c) Discussion among culture
    specialists regarding 'Fine Arts, technology and culture: beneficial or
    harmful to humanity?'; d) Discussion among specialists on religion 
regarding
    'The modern person's spiritual quest: traditional religions and 
spirituality
    without religion.'

3. 'The Future of Humanity' roundtable discussion club: watching and 
analyzing a
movie directly related to the conference topic.

Requirements for participation and manuscript submission:

  - Registration: Participant's full name, affiliation/organization, (work)
    position, academic credentials and honors, address, telephone, fax,
    presentation topic and focus (see above) must all be given.
  - Manuscripts: Microsoft WORD (RTF format); 5-pgs max; A4 size;
    single-spaced; (KZ) Times New Roman font(s) at size 14; margins on 
left-3cm,
    right-1.5cm, top-2cm, bottom-2cm; citations must be given at the end 
of the
    article in the order in which they appear in the text; brief 
abstract must
    be provided at very end; text must be edited both stylistically and
    technically.
  - Conference materials will be published: 2000 T (ca. $15) is required 
with
    article submission.
  - Conference languages: State (Kazakh), Russian and English.

The organizing committee reserves the right to review and select articles.
Authors are responsible for editing and factual accuracy of articles.
Participants traveling to and residing temporarily in Almaty are responsible
for their own costs and arrangements. 30-day (tourist or) business visas are
available upon arrival in Kazakhstan for citizens of many countries 
without a
letter of invitation.
