2nd LSE PhD Symposium on Modern Greece:
"Current Social Science Research on Greece".
LSE, June 10, 2005
Call for Papers:
The 2nd LSE PhD Symposium on Modern Greece aims to provide a forum for =
discussion and reflection upon the changes that have taken place in =
contemporary Greece. Contributions from research students (current and =
recent) across the social sciences and related disciplines are welcome =
(including politics, sociology, economics, international studies, law, =
media and communication studies, history, philosophy). It is expected =
that papers will be based on current or recent PhD research. Novel, =
interdisciplinary, and theoretically informed approaches are strongly =
encouraged. Outstanding papers of the symposium will be considered for=20
publication in Synthesis: A Journal of Modern Greek Politics and =
Economics (published by the Hellenic Observatory) and/or in an edited =
volume.
One of the main objectives of the Symposium is to build upon the success =
of the 1st LSE PhD Symposium, held in 2003, which attracted over 120 =
participants. This initiated an exchange of knowledge between young =
researchers and helped establish a network of scholars currently =
undertaking research on Greece. Further objectives of the Symposium are =
to overcome academic isolation, establish new collaborative links =
between disciplines, test the ground for innovative ideas, and help =
'engage' the wider academic community.
Deadline for applications 18 March, 2005. Please include:
An abstract of your proposed paper of approximately 500 words. This =
should indicate your name, affiliation and status, title of paper, =
research question(s) to be addressed, academic significance of topic, =
relevance of conceptual literature, analytical structure, and main =
sources. Presentations are not to exceed 20 minutes in length. Limited =
funds will be available for travel grants/bursaries. If you would like =
to be considered for such a grant, please attach a letter outlining your =
case.
Successful applicants will be notified by the end of March and will be =
required to circulate their papers by early May 2005. General =
participants are welcome to attend. There will be a =A310 registration =
fee for all participants.
Full conference details will be available in advance from the HO website =
