US - IRAN RELATIONS CONFERENCE
Regional and Global Dynamics
SEPT 9-10, 2005, Salt Lake City, Utah
** PROPOSAL DEADLINE: APRIL 25, 2005 **
The United States and Iran have had severed diplomatic relationships and
only limited contacts in the past quarter of century. Mutual suspicions
and lack of communications between the two states and their respective
citizens have increased following the rise of tensions in the post-9-11
world. To promote networking, interdisciplinary communications, and
sharing of ideas and research findings on behalf of scholars,
institutions, policy makers and citizens, the University of Utah (Middle
East & Central Asia Conference Committee), in conjunction with the
Middle East Technical University (METU-Ankara, Department of
International Relations), and World Security Network
(www.worldsecuritynetwork.org) are happy to announce the upcoming
US-IRAN RELATIONS CONFERENCE.
There will be an estimated 10 topic-specific panels with as many as 45
paper presentations and a plenary speech by a renowned scholar.
Participants with distinguished papers may be asked to contribute to a
potential book project on the same theme. Conference panels may fall
within the following:
* Historical Outlook and Analyses
* Civil Society and Citizen Contacts
* US and Iranian Hegemonies
* The 'Other' in US and Iranian Media and Politics
* Diaspora and Bi-nationals
* Trade, Oil, Gas, and Foreign Investment
* Nuclear Energy and WMD
* Human Rights
