of Power and Tools of Management: Alliances in the Past and in the
Present"*

The University of Bonn invites graduate students and PhD candidates from
North America, Middle and Eastern Europe to participate in its annual
Transatlantic Summer Academy (TASA). Each year, the four-week-long
program focuses on one central issue in the fields of Transatlantic
Relations and European Integration.

The 12th Transatlantic Summer Academy, "Weapons of Power and Tools of
Management: Alliances in the Past and in the Present" (June 13 - July 9,
2005) will focus on alliance politics. Alliances have always been a
central phenomenon in the field of international relations. Yet, despite
this obvious observation, alliances as such have not received much
attention in the historiography nor in the political analysis of
international relations.

TASA provides an intensive interdisciplinary program of lectures,
tutorials, panel discussions and briefings in the fields of politics,
economics, law, history and culture. Next to the seminar program in
Bonn, we will visit German and European institutions in Berlin,
Brussels, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg and meet high-ranking officials and
politicians. The TASA faculty is made up by a wide range of experts from
academia, government, politics, economics, and the media.

Students from North America and Europe with a background in
International Relations, European Studies, Political Science, History,
Economics, Law, or Cultural Studies can apply. The course is geared to
graduate students but also open to exceptionally well-qualified
undergraduates. For more information, please consult our website at the
web address shown below.
