STUDY ABROAD AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY'S MCGHEE CENTER IN ALANYA, TURKEY

Georgetown University offers an exciting opportunity for Georgetown and
non-Georgetown students who wish to study abroad in Turkey. This program
introduces students to the ancient, medieval and modern Eastern
Mediterranean Studies focusing on the crossroads between civilizations
in the east and west. Georgetown University's McGhee Center for Eastern
Mediterranean Studies is located in Alanya, a town of 120,000
inhabitants on Turkey's southwestern coast, within the walls of a
thirteenth century Seljuk castle. The academic building is a 200 year
old villa surrounded by gardens and perched on a promontory 600 feet
above the Mediterranean Sea.

The Center hosts a spring semester program starting with a two- week
orientation in Istanbul and Ankara. During the semester, students
participate in weekend academic fieldtrips, adding a unique experiential
dimension to classroom reading and lectures. Students will also
participate in a mid-semester two week study tour to Syria.

The curriculum consists of five courses including Turkish language that
is offered at all levels. A Georgetown University transcript is
generated at the completion of the program.

The Alanya program is limited to 16 qualified students. Applications are
reviewing on a rolling basis after November 1. The program fee includes
most meals, lodging, books, the orientation in Istanbul and Ankara, the
Syria study tour, and all transportation cost except for the airfare to
Turkey. More information can be found at McGhee Center's website:
