CALL FOR PAPERS
R/=C9volution IV: Teckno-Praxi
An Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference
Hosted by the Ph.D. Humanities Program:
Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture
March 18th, 19th, and 20st, 2005 at Concordia University
Graduate students from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals
exploring =93R/=C9volution,=94 with particular focus on issues stemming f=
rom
its intersections with the intentionally broad themes of =93teckno=94 and
=93praxis.=94
The goal of the fourth annual R/=C9volution conference is, as in previous
years, to integrate theoretical, methodological, and =93practical=94
approaches to the broad theme of =93revolution/evolution=94 via the
presentation and discussion of innovative papers, performances, and
artwork by graduate students from around the world. This year, we are
seeking proposals that link this multifarious, oft-controversial, and
timely theme to =93teckno-praxi.=94 Although =91technologies=92 most obvi=
ously
falls under the umbrella of this term, we ask that presenters feel free
to explore the =91teckno=92 as a nexus of emerging and intersecting
meanings, and that they address the ways in which this poses
difficulties, both new and old, for the articulation of culture(s) with
politic(s).
To this end, R/=C9volution IV seeks to address the last century and to
create space and possibility for continued praxis and critique of
=93pleasures,=94 =93representations,=94 =93differences,=94 =93ideologies,=
=94 =93politics,=94
and =93change.=94 What do =93revolution=94 and =93evolution=94 mean in a
contemporary context dominated by technology and defined through
=93technological progress=94 and =93technological practices=94? What are =
(or
have been) the vectors of and for =93political=94 change under these
circumstances? How is =93teckno=94 being used and/or mobilized, and unde=
r
what conditions, by audiences, fans, and activists both inside and
outside of the Academy? As always, we hope to create a space in which
these questions, and others, can be asked of ideology, language, media,
and discourse, and where dialogue on the past, present, and future can
thrive.
