Call for Papers
Borders and Boundaries
University of Glasgow, 21st January 2005
eSharp, the postgraduate organised and run online journal based at the
University of Glasgow, is hosting a one-day conference supported by the
Arts and Humanities Research Board, on the subject of Borders and
Boundaries.
The keynote speakers for this colloquium are renowned academic, author
and government advisor, Professor Sir Bernard Crick, and Dr Rebecca Kay,
twice winner of the Barbara Heldt Prize for best book in women=92s Slavic
studies and recent recipient of the Royal Society of Edinburgh BP prize
in recognition of her contribution to the Humanities.
eSharp is looking for papers to be presented on the issue of Borders and
Boundaries. The spectrum of submissions could include:
Conflicts Interdisciplinary methodologies
Crossing genres Artistic boundaries
Marginal theories/ideas Ethnic boundaries
Perceived boundaries Third space/way
Cultural/social boundaries Gender
Cinema and Visual borders Protest Dichotomies
Epochs and Eras Truth and Faith
National borders Linguistic boundaries
In keeping with eSharp=92s focus, the conference seeks a multidisciplinar=
y
view on the subject, and applications from across the Arts and Social
Sciences are encouraged. There will also be a roundtable and workshop
session which will focus on issues specific to postgraduate research,
training and funding.
Postgraduates, and recently awarded PhDs, are encouraged to submit 250
word proposals with provisional titles by 20th December 2005. Accepted
applicants will be notified shortly afterwards.
