HUMAN RIGHTS, HIV/AIDS AND THE NEW EPIDEMICS - CALL FOR PAPERS AND
INVITATION FOR PARTICIPATION”
AIDS has become one of the leading causes of mortality among young
adults worldwide. It is estimated that more than 20 million people have
died and that 34 to 46 million are infected with the virus. What are the
social mechanisms for the prevention, treatment and long-term support of
those affected? WHO and its partners have declared the treatment gap a
global emergency. What human rights concerns do we face as regards to
the livelihood of HIV patients of all ages? Psycho-social implications
of AIDS on the patient and the differences in cultural practices. In
2003 the AIDS virus infected a record of 5 million people and killed an
unprecedented 3 million. What will the costs of tackling this disease
be? What can we say about world cooperation over AIDS? Why does AIDS
take precedence over other infectious and deadly disease like malaria?
This session aims to explore the issues and controversies encountered in
the treatment, policies, and concerns over, and also the
contextualization of AIDS among other similar diseases in the world.
Social consequences of the collapse of buildings and other man-made
accidents will also be examined. Please find updated information as
