HEALTH, MEDICINE AND COLONIALISM - CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION FOR
PARTICIPATION”
The relationship between colonization experiences and the health outcome
of the colonization processes has historically been very dramatic. This
session aims to explore and comment on the relationship between health
outcomes and colonization experiences from a historic perspective and
also with a view to understanding the ongoing situation of our day.
Neo-colonial experiences. Controversies of humanitarian aid. Health
consequences of embargos. The role of medical doctors in processes of
compliance or resistance. Colonial interferences in the health practices
of native populations. Health conditions and statistics of communities
under different forms of colonization. This session proposes to examine
the ways in which issues of health reflect and redefine systems of
domination. “Nationalist” responses to colonization and accompanying
health institutions. Social consequences of the collapse of buildings
and other man-made accidents will also be examined. Please find updated
information as regards the meeting at the IFSSH website
