FILM, IDEOLOGY AND CULTURE:
LESSONS FROM THE 20th CENTURY/ ISSUES FOR THE 21st CENTURY
The CSULB Department of Comparative World Literature and Classics invites
paper and panel proposals pertinent to the topic of film in its ideological
and cultural contexts. The following panels have been proposed; additional
suggestions are most welcome.
- Postcoloniality, "Third Cinema" and the 21st Century
- Geopolitics, Globalization and the Future of World Cinema (Africa, Asia,
East and West Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Pacific Basin)
- Documentary Film
- Images of Religion in Contemporary Cinema
- Hollywood, Bollywood and Hong Kong: Questions of Cinematic Hybridity
- Crossing Borders: Cinema in the Americas
- Pax Americana and the Resurgent Historical Epic
- Emerging Cinemas
- Science Fiction: Utopic/Dystopic Images of Humanity's Future
- Myth, Archetype and Film
- Psychoanalysis, Literature and Film
- Pedagogical Issues: Film and Curriculum
- Gender, Politics and Film
- Fiction and Film
Papers should be limited to twenty minutes. Proposals for papers or panels
should be approximately 250-400 words in length. Note any visual resource
needs: slides, VHS/DVD players, laptops, PowerPoint, etc. The deadline for
submitting proposals is December 15, 2003. Address all proposals and/or
