The transgressive city:*Comparative perspectives on governance and the
possibilities of everyday life in the emerging global city*
Transgression has long been associated to urban life, as a way to challenge
authority. Urban anonymity can provide opportunities for transgressing
moral and social norms. Urban complexity can challenge pretentions of
rational calculation and thus stimulate modes of action that follow
transgressive forms of rationality. Urban continuous transformation
challenges means of state control. Many scholars have linked emancipation
and rebellion with cities. But beyond political mobilization, the city is
seen as transgressive because it concentrates violence, riots, extreme
polarization, and informality.
The deadline for abstract submission is 31 January 2016. Each abstract will
be classified by the session organizers into three categories:
- A – Accepted abstract to be presented at the conference;
- B – Accepted abstract as a contribution to the conference (available
online) (this paper might be presented in case of drop outs);
- C – Refused abstract. The paper will not be presented at the
conference.
Abstracts should be sent by e-mail to the session organizers (addresses
listed below) and in cc torc21ciudad2016 at colmex.mx. The session organizers
will let you know in due time the outcome of the selection process.
Please note that stream organizers can propose a paper in another stream,
but not in their own stream. Abstract should be presented in English.
Conference presentations will be in English.
Authors of accepted abstracts should send an extended abstract (500-700
words) of their paper by July 1st, 2016 to rc21ciudad2016 at colmex.mx. These
extended abstracts will be available online. The full-length paper needs to
be sent to the session chair directly.
Abstracts proposals should include the following information:
1. The stream to which the abstract is submitted.
2. A synthesis of the issues to be addressed in the paper, the
hypothesis underlying them, the empirical and/or the theoretical basis, and
the structure of the paper (300-500 words).
3. The contact of the author(s): Name(s), affiliation, address
(including postal code), a phone number (will not be made public) and an
e-mail address.
Please be reminded that RC21 membership and conference registration fees
are mandatory for all participants, including paper presenters. Our
cancellation policy is the following: before June 20, 2016: full refund of
