[Bilimsel Haber] New Publication about the Gezi Resistance in Turkey / Barikatta Bir Tuğla Daha: Gezi Direnişi ve Sonrası

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to inform you that our book *Another Brick in the
Barricade: The Gezi Resistance and Its Aftermath* has finally been
published by the WienerVerlag für Sozialforschung.

"After more than two years, what has remained of the Gezi Park protests?"
"Is Gezi's critique of political power still valid?" "What has changed
after Gezi?" These valid questions linger; not properly answered, not yet
properly discussed. Perhaps Gezi's enduring effects and legacy can be
discovered in the resistances, dissents and practices of political critique
that have been created since June 2013. In this book, fourteen authors
discuss and elaborate on such questions from both political and quotidian
perspectives.


Critique of the power of the multitude, the anthropology and ethnography of
resistance, the causes, effects and continuity of the Gezi Park protests
are among the issues covered in *Another Brick in the Barricade: The Gezi
Resistance and Its Aftermath.*

This book does not offer all-explaining narratives of singular objective
truths. It does not represent the whole of the multitude. A wide
perspective of analyses ranging from political science to sociology,
psychology to anthropology, economic to media studies consider Gezi
resistance not only as an exceptional state of resistance, but also in
terms of the new possibilities it offers for political critique. These
possibilities constitute the fieldwork for academic studies, which in turn
become part of social struggle.

This volume seeks to make "diversity" its distinguishing aspect. The
phenomena it considers - Gezi and its aftermath - requires this. The
interdisciplinary approach and variety of discussions in the volume provide
not just critique about power and dominance in Turkey, but also inspire
resistance against domination and power around the world.

Haziran 2013 ‘Gezi hareketi’nin üzerinden iki seneden fazla zaman geçti.
Gezi direnişi’nden geriye ne kaldı? Gezi’nin iktidar eleştirisi halan
aktüel mi? Gezi neyi değiştirebildi gibi sorular hala baki. Belki de Gezi
direnişinin izleri, Gezi’den beri süregelen direnişlerin ve iktidar
eleştirisi pratiklerinin her birine sirayet etmiş bir şekilde
bulunabilir. *Another
Brick in the Barricade: The Gezi Resistance and Its Aftermath * adlı bu
kitapta Gezi hareketi hem siyasal anlamda hem de gündelik hayatımız
açısından Gezi direnişine ilişkin hala güncel olan bir çok soruyu soruyor
ve yanıtlamaya çalışıyor. Kitapta on dört yazar Gezi’deki çoklu iktidar
eleştirisinden, direnişin antropolojisine, direnişin etnografisine,
direnişin yarattığı siyasal alana, direnişin sebepleri ve muhtemel
sonuçları ve süreklilik meselesine dair çeşitli sorulara, bir bütün adına
konuşma ve tek bir hakikati ortaya çıkarma derdi olmadan, siyaset
biliminden sosyolojiye, psikolojiden antropolojiye, ekonomi ve medya
bilimlerine değin çeşitli disiplinler aracılığıyla yanıtlar arıyor.



Bu makaleler Gezi direnişini sadece bir olağanüstü hal ve olağanüstü bir
direniş olarak değil iktidar eleştirisi ve çoklu siyasal alanlar açısından
yarattığı imkanlarla değerlendiriyor ve de bu imkanlar akademik çalışmanın
alanları, akademik çalışma da toplumsal mücadelelerin entegrel bir parçası
olarak ortaya çıkıyor. Her çalışma bir öncekini bir sonrakinden ayıracağı
gibi her çalışma kendisini bir önceki ve bir sonraki çalışmayla da
birleştiriyor. O nedenle bu çalışma ne şu ana kadarki Gezi direnişi üzerine
yazılanlardan çok farklı bir yere denk düşmekte ne de bundan sonrakilerden
çok başka bir yerde durmakta. Yine de sorduğu sorular ve yaklaşımların
çeşitliliği ve yöntemlerdeki farklılıklar itibariyle mevcut çalışmalardan
farklı yaklaşımları ortaya koyuyor.



Bu anlamda da bundan sonraki çalışmalara yardımcı olacak yeni sorular
atıyor ortaya. Haziran 2013 direnişini ise Türkiye toplumsal mücadeleler
tarihinde önemli bir yere koyarken yine de bunun bundan sonraki toplumsal
mücadeleler için yol açıcı bir örnek olduğunun altını çiziyor.
