Call for Applications

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is looking for several Research and Teaching 
Fellows for its MA in Politics and Security Programme. The Research and 
Teaching Fellows are needed for the following courses:

  * Political Theory
  * Research Methods
  * European Politics
  * Contemporary Issues in Central Asian Politics and Security

Application Deadline: April 20, 2012

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation designed to promote 
the principles and aims of the OSCE in the Central Asian region, 
enshrined in its fundamental idea of comprehensive security. Located in 
Bishkek, the OSCE Academy is strongly embedded in the wider Central 
Asian academic and political context and follows a distinctive regional 
approach in its activities.

Requirements:

The qualified candidate holds at least an MA/MSc but preferably a PhD 
degree in Political Science or a related field and has a teaching 
experience.

The fellowship has the following terms and components:

1) A teaching assignment of one of the above mentioned courses.

Political Theory, Research Methods and European Politics are four credit 
courses, meeting twice a week for 90 mins from 1 September, 2012 through 
December 31, 2012. Contemporary Issues in Central Asian Politics and 
Security is a three credit course meeting once a week for 120 mins.

The period of contract is from 1 September, 2012 to December 31, 2012. 
The aim of the courses is to provide a graduate level survey of these 
fields introducing students to major approaches and theories, important 
topics, and the contemporary developments. The courses are expected to 
be taught on graduate level involving lectures, seminars, research 
assignments, and individual student mentoring. The specific course 
topics as well as the course design should be discussed with the 
academic management of the OSCE Academy. Additionally, the Fellow is 
expected to spend 6 hours per week for the preparation of the courses 
(lecture/seminar notes, preparation of assignments, and 
grading/evaluation of students etc).

2) The fellowship also includes office hours for students of 
approximately 4 hours a week.

3) Overall, the commitment at the Academy will not exceed 20 hours per 
   week. However, due to the nature of an academic environment, the load 
    may vary from about 15 to 25 hours per week.

During the rest of the time, the fellows are encouraged to conduct their 
research and will receive full support of the Academy and our partners. 
We expect the fellows to present their research to the students and the 
greater audience at the end of the fellowship period with us.

The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:

a) Economy class round-trip airfare from the city of current residence 
   to Bishkek;

b) Entry visa expenses to Kyrgyzstan, if any;

c) Housing allowance of 350 Euros per month for international fellows 
  (the OSCE Academy staff will assist with finding accommodation in 
Bishkek);

d) Honorarium of 750 Euros per month for teaching the four credit hour 
course;

e) 100 Euro one-time settling-in fee (for international fellows);

f) Office space and a computer, as well as access to all of our 
facilities, including library and JSTOR.

NOTE: The Academy will not be able to provide health insurance.

Interested applicants should submit their CV, cover letter, a short 
summary of their research project and two letters of reference from 
people familiar with the candidate's academic work to 
master1faculty at osce-academy.net until 20 April, 2012.
