SERMEISS is a professional organization for scholars and teachers of the
Middle East and Muslim world, serving the area south of the Ohio River
and east of the Mississippi. It meets twice each year, in the spring and
fall. SERMEISS members represent the entire range of academic
disciplines, and the atmosphere of the biannual meetings is that of a
weekend academic retreat. There are no concurrent sessions scheduled,
ensuring an audience of 40-80 for each presentation and facilitating
continued discussion throughout the weekend. Members view the meetings
as the ideal "testing ground" for research in progress and welcome input
and suggestions from their colleagues. For membership inquiries, please
consult the SERMEISS web site:
http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/sermeiss/about.htm

THE BODMAN AWARD Every year, SERMEISS offers a $250.00 award for the
best original research paper by a graduate student. SERMEISS presents
the award at the fall meeting following the presentation date. Graduate
students are encouraged to submit proposals for both the Spring and the
Fall meetings.
