Call for Papers / Invitation to Attend a Symposium on Art Theft, Istanbul

The General Directorate of Endowments (Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü) of
Turkey is organizing an international symposium on "Cultural Heritage
Stolen from Istanbul's Mosques" on 23-28 May 2011, in Istanbul. The
aim is to examine and discuss the theft of objects from mosques under
the care of the Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü from a variety of
perspectives, from law to religion to sociology. Moreover, we hope to
develop strategies to prevent theft as well as the sale of objects to
both national and international auction houses, to collaborate with
auction houses in the matter of prevention, and to educate the general
public about this issue by means of different media.
