Position: Deputy Director, School of Professional and Continuing
Education, University of Central Asia
The University of Central Asia (UCA) is a private, secular university
founded in 2000 by the governments of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic
and Tajikistan, and His Highness the Aga Khan to foster the economic
and social development of Central Asia, especially its vast mountain
regions. The University's Treaty and Charter were signed by the
Presidents of the three Founding States, ratified by the respective
Parliaments and registered with the United Nations.
Established in 2006, the School of Professional and Continuing
Education (SPCE) is designed to serve the needs of the communities
where the campuses are being built and fulfills UCA's mission to reach
the broadest spectrum of learners possible. The School is Central
Asia's first provider of post-secondary, short-cycle educational
programmes, giving young people and adults professional and vocational
qualifications in a flexible learning format that improve employment
and income-generating opportunities. SPCE offers a range of
programmes in areas such as: applied languages, IT, tourism,
entrepreneurship, technical and vocational education and training,
local government and economic development, and outreach programmes in
rural communities. Programmes are delivered at SPCE centres in Khorog
and Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Naryn and Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic), and
Tekeli and Taldykorgan (Kazakshtan), and increasingly at other
locations in partnership with state institutions.
SPCE is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Deputy
Director of SPCE to be based at UCA's Central Administration office in
Bishkek. The position requires travel within the SPCE's operating region.
The Position
The Deputy Director of School of Professional and Continuing Education
(SPCE), reporting to the Director of SPCE, will be responsible for
overall supervision and oversight of all SPCE units in the operating
region. S/he will also be responsible for coordinating the activities
related to the external donor funded programmes.
In addition, it is hoped that the Deputy Director will have
substantive knowledge of one of the key fields of SPCE programmes:
English, IT, entrepreneurship, tourism, or public
administration/public policy, and lead programme development in the
given area.
Requirements:
* Hold a master's or candidate of sciences degree.
* Managerial experience preferably in an educational or international
organization.
* Proficiency in English and Russian languages.
* Multiple skills and capacity to contribute at the different
functional levels of SPCE.
