Netherlands Institute in Turkey (NIT) and Institut Français d'Etudes
Anatoliennes (IFEA) cordially invite you to a lecture by Nicole van Os of
Leiden University.

*Abstract*

In 1923, Arthur Field, the secretary of the Anglo-Turkish Society wrote an
article in the Jus Suffragi, the periodical of the International Woman's
Suffrage Alliance on Turkish women and the newly founded Turk Kadinlar
Birligi. This article is generally seen as the first overture of the
international women's movement towards Turkish women. However, sources which
are for a large part available through internet reveal that such an overture
took place much earlier. In this talk I will in the first place tell more
about the first contacts of Ottoman, Turkish women with the international
women's movement and secondly discuss the use of internet sources for the
study of the Ottoman, Turkish women's history.
