Research Grant Announcement for PhD Students 2010, Orient-Institut Beirut

The Orient-Institut Beirut offers grants for PhD students to pursue  
research in the humanities and social sciences in the region.

The level of award is € 900 including free accommodation in the  
Institute. In case of external accommodation a subsidiary allowance of  
€ 230 can be offered. The grants are tenable for up to 12 months.

Requirements: Applicants must hold a MA degree or equivalent in a  
discipline pertaining to Oriental Studies or in any other region  
related discipline. The application must point out the specific  
benefits expected from research work at the Institute or in the  
region. An advanced level in Arabic reading and speaking faculties is  
required. Holders of scholarships are expected to attend the internal  
colloquia at the Institute and to coordinate with the director if  
research is conducted abroad (outside of Lebanon).

In case of non-German applicants, basic command of German is  
necessary.  Applications must be submitted before November 10 (2009) to:
