Funding under Erasmus Mundus II
In April 2009, 36 Master’s courses of the first Erasmus Mundus
generation applied for further funding under the Erasmus Mundus II
Programme. The European Commission selected out of these applications
19 programmes one of it was the Master’s course “Global Studies – A
European Perspective”. Starting with next year there will be
introduced some changes in the Erasmus Mundus scholarship scheme. A
major one is the offer of full-time grants for European students
(category B scholarships). For the 2010-2012 generation 6 category B
grants will be provided for students of the Global Studies programme
as well as 8 scholarships for non-EU students and 2 grants dedicated
for nationals from the Western Balkans and Turkey.

Also the composition of the EMGS consortium will change. Starting with
2010 Roskilde University (Denmark), Fudan University (China) and
Jawaharlal Nehru University (India) will be part of the consortium.

them are kindly invited together with their family members and friends
to a Graduation Ceremony that will be held in Leipzig on November

Global Studies programme welcomes 73 students
At the beginning of October 73 new students from 30 different
countries have been welcomed at the University of Leipzig, the London
School of Economics, the University of Vienna and the University of
Wroclaw.

During introductory days the co-ordinators offered administrative
support in order to facilitate the adjustment of the students in the
new environment. The support was very much appreciated by the
newcomers. An excursion to Altenburg as well as other social events
that have been organised for those students that do study in the
winter term at the University of Leipzig allowed to get to know the
classmates before the start of the courses. Altogether 128 students
are currently pursuing the Master's course in "Global Studies - A
European Perspective". We wish all of them a very pleasant winter term
and good study results.

Global Studies winter school 2009
Due to the great success of the last year’s winter school in the
Polish mountains that brought together all first year students in a
beautiful winter scenery and enabled all EMGS students to get to know
also their colleagues from the other study places and at the same time
to created a common EMGS spirit, the EMGS consortium decided to
organise the winter school also in 2009. It will be held from December
10th to 13th in the Polish mountains. Besides academic workshops and
presentations also evaluation meetings as well as an excursion are
organised. The participation is obligatory for all first year students
whereas second year students can attend voluntarily on their own costs.
