Mehmet Tütüncü, _Turkish Palestine (1069-1917): Inscriptions from
al-Khalil (Hebron), Nabi Musa and other Palestinian Cities_, Haarlem
2008, 320 pp. ISBN 978906921-004-9.

From the year 1069 until 1917, Turks ruled in most of what is now the
Middle East, and thus, also, in Palestine. First the Seljukids, Artuqids
and Zangids, and later the Mamluks and lastly the Ottomans ruled in
Palestine. But despite this nearly 850 year-long rule, the Turkish
heritage of, and contribution to the land are often overlooked, and
underestimated in the literature. One of the most significant and
visible signs of this heritage is the existence of buildings, erected by
Turks, located in the sacred landscape of Palestine, and of the
inscriptions on these buildings. This book is a record of Turkish
building activities from the beginning of the first Turkish rule (1069),
the Saljukids', to the end of the Ottoman rule (1917).
