Position in Ottoman History at Istanbul Bilgi University

Preliminary search for a position in Ottoman history.

Pending approval by the university administration, the Department of History
at Istanbul Bilgi University invites informal applications for a position in
Ottoman history (open rank), to begin September 1st, 2008.

Applicants should hold a PhD at the time of employment. As English is the
language of instruction, active and passive versatility in both English and
Turkish is required.
Candidates should demonstrate teaching experience and an excellent research
record in any aspect or time in Ottoman history, though a focus on the early
modern period up to the tanzimat may attract particular interest on the side
of the department. Interest in intellectual and cultural history as well as
theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches would match the intellectual
atmosphere of the faculty.

Teaching load is 9 hours/week for senior and 12 hours/week for junior
faculty. Teaching includes a broad variety of undergraduate courses and
participation in graduate programs with a special focus on cultural and
intellectual history.

The successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the
development of a PhD programme and the further perfection and coordination
of the existing BA and MA programmes.

Staff members are expected to engage in extra-curricular departmental
activities.

Applicants are asked to submit a cv with list of publications, a statement
of purpose and three addresses of referees to
