Turkish Language Lecturer for Summer Program

University of Chicago, the Department of Near Eastern Languages and
Civilizations, announces a position for a Lecturer in Turkish language, at
the intermediate level, for the summer intensive program in Chicago (June
23-August 22, 2008), which is sponsored in conjunction with the Eastern
Consortium. The Lecturer will teach a sequence of three intensive language
courses meeting several hours daily that are designed to provide the
equivalent of a full academic-years study of Turkish. Emphasis will be
placed on listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as cultural
content; some development of supplemental pedagogical materials is expected.
Native or near-native proficiency is required. Preference will be given to
candidates with an advanced degree in Turkish language, literature or
second-language instruction, along with recent teaching experience in a
university setting.
