in Istanbul

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are happy to invite you to the symposium Orient & Occident. West meets
East in Istanbul. On June 25th and June 26, the Netherlands Institute in
Turkey hosts an international group of scholars and intellectuals, who will
look at the multi-faceted nature of East-West relations and the changing
perceptions of these relations in history, literature and the arts, from the
Middle Ages to the modern era.

The symposium is organized by four institutions in three countries: the
University of Utrecht (Dr. Raniero Speelman), Université de la Picardie
Amiens (Dr. Danielle Buschinger), Ankara Üniversitesi (Dr. Nevin Özkan) and
the Netherlands Institute in Turkey (Dr. Fokke Gerritsen). Speakers come
from these countries, as well as from Portugal, Czech Republic, Italy,
Greece, Latvia, Switzerland and Poland. The languages of the symposium are
English and French.

The final version of the program is attached in pdf format. For possible
minor last-minute changes, see also the latest version at
