Musical creation and nationalisms in South-Εast Europe 

This volume proposes a series of articles, which relate to the art music creations of the countries of South-Εast Europe and their statute of expressions of the "national" within the framework of the State-nations. Badly known and ignored, these musical creations do not exist apart from the chapters of the "National Schools" of the handbooks of history of music. Their statute is defined in the otherness, which is that of the European periphery, rich of " local colours ", but "postponed" and without impact. In the culture which generates them, they incorporate the ethnocentric ideological bases, but also all the constitutional concepts of the national identity, while investing on the historical past and the cultural tradition whose language, religion and the popular tradition are the most trustful guarantors. The conditions of their creation, between the indigenous artistic expression (the us) and that of the Central Europe (the other), determine in a  decisive way the management of the cultural strategies and the local personal confrontations. But they also engage of the ideas and the styles in original expressions, although confined with the margins of the international artistic evolutions.

Le présent volume propose une série d’articles qui portent sur les musiques savantes des pays du Sud-Est européen et leur statut d’expressions du « national » dans le cadre des États-nations. Mal connues et méconnues, ces musiques n’existent pas en dehors des chapitres des « Écoles Nationales » des manuels d’histoire de musique. Leur statut se définit dans l’altérité qui est celle de la périphérie européenne, riche en « couleurs locales », mais « arriérée » et sans impact. Dans la culture qui les engendre, elles incorporent les fondements idéologiques ethnocentriques, mais aussi tous les concepts constitutionnels de l’identité nationale, en investissant sur le passé historique et la tradition culturelle dont la langue, la religion et la tradition populaire en sont les garants les plus confiants. Les conditions de leur création, entre l’expression artistique autochtone (le nous) et celle de l’Europe centrale  (l’autre), déterminent de manière décisive la gestion des stratégies culturelles et les confrontations personnelles locales. Mais elles engagent aussi des idées et des styles dans des expressions originales, bien que confinées aux marges des évolutions artistiques internationales.

Μουσική δημιουργία και εθνικισμοί στη Νοτιο-Ανατολική Ευρώπη

Η παρούσα έκδοση προτείνει μια σειρά άρθρων που αναφέρονται στις λόγιες μουσικές παραδόσεις των χωρών της Νοτιο-Ανατολικής Ευρώπης, καθώς και στον προσδιορισμό της έννοιας και έκφρασης του «εθνικού» στα πλαίσια του Έθνους-Κράτους. Άγνωστες και αγνοημένες, οι μουσικές αυτές παραδόσεις δεν υπάρχουν έξω από τα κεφάλαια περί «εθνικών σχολών» των εγχειριδίων της ιστορίας της μουσικής. Η ύπαρξή τους καθορίζεται ως ετερότητα, ως καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία μιας ευρωπαϊκής περιφέρειας, πλούσιας σε «τοπικά χρώματα», αλλά αισθητικά  «ξεπερασμένη» και χωρίς δυνατότητες πρόκλησης επιδράσεων. Στο εσωτερικό των πολιτισμών που τις παράγει, ενσωματώνουν όλα τα θεμελιώδη εθνοκεντρικά ιδεολογικά σύμβολα, όπως επίσης και όλες τις επίσημες εννοιολογήσεις της εθνικής ταυτότητας, επενδύοντας στο ιστορικό παρελθόν και την πολιτιστική παράδοση της οποίας η γλώσσα, η θρησκεία και η λαϊκή μουσική παράδοση αποτελούν τους πιο έμπιστους εγγυητές. Οι προϋποθέσεις της δημιουργίας τους, ανάμεσα στη γηγενή καλλιτεχνική έκφραση (το εμείς) και αυτήν της κεντρικής Ευρώπης  (το άλλο), καθορίζουν με τρόπο αποφασιστικό, τη διαχείριση των πολιτιστικών στρατηγικών και τις τοπικές προσωπικές αναμετρήσεις. Αλλά δεσμεύουν επίσης τις ιδέες και τα ύφη μέσα σε πρωτότυπες καλλιτεχνικές εκφράσεις, έστω κι αν αυτές περιορίζονται στα περιθώρια των διεθνών καλλιτεχνικών εξελίξεων.
