[Bilimsel Haber] CfP for panel on Turkey in Europe

Dear Friends,

We are two PhD students in International Politics from the University of
Wales, Aberystwyth and we are organising a panel for the 2007 UACES
conference to be held in Portsmouth, 3-5 September 2007

The title of the panel is 'Europe between Religious and Secular Values:
Internal Contradictions, External Implications'.

The aim of this panel is to explore some of the inconsistencies of
European commitments to rights, justice and democracy vis-à-vis Muslims
in Europe and Muslim countries.  The panel breaks down into three
interconnected strands of enquiry:

(i)     European normative commitments in Europe and a discussion of the
problematic accommodation of Muslim minorities;

(ii)    European normative commitments towards potential future members
of the 'EU rope', based on an analysis of European approaches towards
Turkey; and

(iii)   European normative commitments towards 'outsiders' and a
discussion of Europe's strategy towards neighbouring Muslim countries.

We are looking for paper contributions in respect to Turkey as well as a
potential panel chair.

The deadline for proposals is 15 January, so we would be grateful if
anyone interested would contact us as soon as possible.
