*InterAlia: A Journal of Queer Studies*
InterAlia: A Journal of Queer Studies invites contributions to its
upcoming issue entitled "Seeking Queer Alliances: Resisting Dominant
Discourses and Institutions."
As the political climate in many parts of the world turns increasingly
conservative, we are asking whether a concept such as global homophobia
may be a useful analytical and/or political tool, and-as a correlate
question-whether queer concepts travel well across political borders and
geo-cultural spaces. Do dominant discourses that include neo-liberalism
as well as fundamentalisms of all kinds, and dominant institutions
spanning the state as well as churches, require distinct forms of
counterpractice? How to reclaim discourse appropriated by the dominant
institutions? What are and what could such practices of resistance be?
What alliances have been formed, and in which locations, for purposes of
political activism and for achieving particular strategic aims? How do
activists serve as theorists, how do theorists serve as political
practitioners, and how does the relationship between those functions
manifest itself across contexts? What are some internal and external
obstacles to communication among queers occupying different social and
geographical spaces? We wish to ask those questions, and others, in the
context of the translatability of queer concepts across cultural and
linguistic spaces, as well as the translatability between the analytical
and the practical uses to which these concepts are put.
InterAlia is an annual academic journal peer edited by scholars based in
Poland, Germany, and the U.S. Every paper submitted goes through a
double blind review process. The target readership for InterAlia are the
students, scholars and activists who are interested in queer issues and
have access to the web. (For more information see www.interalia.org.pl
or contact us at interalia at o2.pl.)
Authors should submit their manuscripts via email to interalia at o2.pl, as
attached documents in Word format by March 31, 2007. Manuscripts are
evaluated anonymously, so authors’ names should appear on a separate
title page or in correspondence only. Manuscripts should conform to the
MLA format, 15th edition, and be in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 words,
with a maximum of 10,000 words total, including footnotes. Essay
submissions over 10,000 words will be returned to authors without being
read.
