Association for Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab world, Iran, and
Turkey (AMCA)

We write to invite you to join us as a member of the new academic
organization, Association for Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab
world, Iran, and Turkey (AMCA). A private, non-profit, non-political,
international organization, AMCA aims to advance the
study of this emerging field through the creation of a network of
interested scholars and organizations. We will facilitate communication and
cooperation among those in the field by sponsoring conferences, holding
meetings, and exchanging information via a newsletter
and website.

We have formed an interim board (see below) and written the mission
statement and by-laws for the association. Our next step is to compile
membership via a listserv to establish affiliation at the MESA '07 meeting
in Montreal. There, we will launch the association through a double panel
on the state of the field, "Art without History? Evaluating Arab Art." We
are currently in the process of legally registering as an organization,
upon which membership dues will be set and collected.

If you are interested in joining us, please send your name, affiliation,
and email to Dina Ramadan at:
dar2103 at columbia.edu

And please forward this invitation along to anyone
whom might be interested. Thank you.

Warm Regards,

Nada Shabout, President
Sarah Rogers, President-Elect
Dina Ramadan, Secretary-Treasurer
Shiva Balaghi, founding board member
Beral Medra, founding board member
Salwa Mikdadi, founding board member
Silvia Naef, founding board member
Nasser Rabbat, honorary board advisor
