Bilkent, Turkey's premier private university, has initiated a search
process for a full Professor to serve as the Chairperson of the
Department of Archaeology and History of Art. The university, located in
Turkey's capital city (Ankara), was established in 1986 and has achieved
international recognition in many academic fields. Turkey is immensely
rich in its heritage of ancient civilizations as well as modern
cultures. Bilkent's Department of Archaeology and History of Art enjoys
prestige for its work in undergraduate and graduate studies, especially
in prehistory, ancient Near East, Greek-Roman-Hellenistic-Byzantine
archaeology, architecture and art, Islamic art, Ottoman art, etc. The
language of instruction at Bilkent is English and the Faculty in the
Department of Archaeology and History of Art includes members from the
United States of America, Canada, Germany, Holland, Great Britain, and
Turkey. Enrollment: 75 undergraduates, 20 graduate students, 15-20
exchange students from the United States, Italy, and Sweden.

For Chairmanship, the Search Committee seeks a full Professor of
Archaeology or History of Art. (Associate Professors may also be
considered.)

A strong record of academic and teaching excellence and prestigious
publications is required. The Chairman will be expected to further
develop the curriculum, recruit new faculty, explore prospects for
initiating a scholarly journal in English, contribute to Turkey's active
and diverse studies in Archaeology and History of Art, heighten the
department's international stature, organize conferences and symposia,
and attract major scholars and scientists to the campus.

Salary and benefits, starting date, term of office, etc. are negotiable.
Bilkent will provide furnished on-campus housing.
