CALL FOR PAPERS
The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies is now accepting submissions for
an open topics issue. We seek fresh, critical approaches in the
cultural studies mode, as well as studies that reflect new directions
in cultural studies.
Many scholars can still remember the hysterical predictions of
conservatives who feared that cultural studies would erode the canon
and traditional critical approaches to literature, or compromise the
scientific aspirations of the social sciences, yet such apocalyptic
scenarios have not materialized. Indeed, it could be said that
cultural studies has ingratiated itself, for good and for bad, in
academia; losing some of its activist (and critical) momentum. The
question may be "Where do we go for here?," but more likely, it
should be revised to "What is to be done?" This special issue hopes
to show the inquiries that cultural studies does well, and offer
promising and unexpected futures for approaching culture.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:
*Cultural studies and academic institutions
*Cultural studies and non-academic audiences
*The "Californication" of cultural and ethnic studies
*Cultural critics in unexpected places
*Cultural studies on the right (and),
*Cultural studies and the left
*Cultural studies and pedagogy
ABOUT THE JOURNAL
The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, a refereed academic journal
produced at the University of Iowa, is dedicated to publishing the
best work in cultural studies from both established scholars and
emerging critics. Unlike many other journals, we hope to avoid rigid
orthodoxies and publish the best of both theoretical work and applied
criticism on a range of issues. Our goal is to present the best in
contemporary criticism while fostering conversations across
disciplinary and ideological divides.
