Arka kapaktan (From the back cover):

Karay (Karaim), a Turkic language, is considered one of the most endangered languages in the world. There are fewer than 50 active speakers remaining among the ca. 2,000 Karay Turks now living in Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine (chiefly Crimea), and Turkey (there are also ca. 50,000 non-Turkic Karaim in the world). This is the first detailed
description in English of the Karay language. The introductory chapter (the history and culture of the Karays) is followed by a grammatical sketch of the Trakai dialect of Karay in Lithuania, a large text corpus, and two indices: a Karay-English glossary with Karay words in full grammatical index and an index of English words (of the entire text section).

Mykolas Firkovicius (Trakai 1924 * 2000 Vilnius), the compiler of the conversational phrases in this book, was a scholar and the late spiritual leader of the Lithuanian Karays (1992-2000). Author of many publications in Karay, including the Karay self-teaching book, he worked as a civil and industrial engineer and was awarded the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas 3rd degree Order in 1997.

Timur Kocaoglu teaches Turkic languages and cultures at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey. His recent works include a comparative phrase book of 21 Turkic languages, a compendium of Uzbek riddles collected from the
northern regions of Afghanistan, and a new edition of the Codex Cumanicus, a fourteenth-century manuscript in Latin, Persian, Middle High German, and Kuman Turkic, to be published soon.
