Municipality of Konitsa, a "Summer School in Anthropology, Ethnography =
and Comparative Folklore of the Balkans" in the city of Konitsa in the =
period 30/7-12/8/2006. The Konitsa Summer School falls within the =

Application Procedure
Each applicant should complete an application form and send it per email =
to the Summer School contact email address: =
konitsa_summerschool@yahoo.gr.

Deadline for the submission of application is the 30 April 2006. All =
applicants will be have been notified by the 9 June 2006. Eligible to =
apply are final year undergraduate, MA and doctoral students from any =
country. Seventy (70) participants are expected to be admitted. An =
estimated fee of 200 Euros is necessary for admission. This amount is =
intended to cover the travel costs of the lecturers and guest speakers. =
Accommodation and travel expenses during the Summer School will be =
covered by the municipality of Konitsa. The fee should be paid upon =
registration in Konitsa. Any travel costs for coming to and leaving =
Konitsa must be paid by the participants themselves. A Certificate of =
Attendance will be provided to the Summer School participants.
Social Events
The first two weeks of August is a period with many social events, =
religious celebrations and public feasts in all parts of Greece. In =
addition to this, the Municipality of Konitsa intends to organise =
various cultural activities on the occasion of the Summer School. A =
two-day excursion to the beaches of the Preveza area will also take =
place on the weekend 5-6 August.

The "BORDER CROSSINGS" Network is established by academics and students =
from the University of Western Macedonia (Florina), the University of =
St. Kyril and Methodii (Skopje), the University of Ljubljana, the =
University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki), the University of Ioannina =
(Ioannina), the Panteion University (Athens) and the University of the =
Aegean. The network aims in developing cross-border cooperation in the =
area of Balkan Studies (with emphasis in the Social Sciences and the =
Humanities) by regularly organizing student conferences and other forms =
of academic exchanges.
The network
Organized three conferences in Skopje (November 2003), Florina (May =
2004) and Ioannina (May 2005) with a total number of participants =
exceeding 250 students and staff members coming from five Balkan =
counties. The fourth conference will take place in Ohrid in May 2006.
Participated in a number of student exchange activities in SE Europe. =
Achieved funding from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the =
University of Ioannina, the Municipality and Prefecture of Florina, the =
Municipality of Ioannina and the Association of Local Authorities of the =
Prefecture of Ioannina.The activities of the network counter fears, =
mistrust and prejudices. Students come out of these activities with a =
better understanding of their common heritage and the benefits, and how =
to use it to the advantage of the region through cross-border =
cooperation. In addition, conferences build capacity within the =
participating Higher Education institutions and enable further common =
research activities.
