The University proposes to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow in medieval =
European, Byzantine or Islamic History as par to f a Mellon Foundation =
Sawyer Seminar in 'Violence and authority: comparative studies on =
European, Byzantine and Islamic states and state-building'. The =
year-long, weekly seminar will bring together historians of medieval =
Europe, Byzantium and Islam. It is to be convened by Dr. P. Sijpesteijn =
and Dr. C.F. Robinson, and hosted at Christ Church.
Candidates should have expertise in medieval European, Byzantine or =
classical Islamic History, and should have completed, or be near =
completing, a doctorate. The successful candidate will be expected to =
attend all seminar meetings and to undertake some administrative and =
research tasks related to the seminar. This is a two-year, full-time and =
fixed-term appointment, which will commence on 1 October 2006 and =
terminate on 30 September 2008.=20
