Writing Against the Curriculum:
Anti-Disciplinarity in the Writing and Cultural Studies Classroom
Cultural studies critiques of disciplinarity have engendered a wide
range of alternatives to the disciplinary norms that govern the American
academy: multi-, inter-, pre-, post-, trans-, and anti-disciplinarity.
Writing Against the Curriculum is a response to growing efforts by
institutions and even governments to discipline the teaching of writing
and cultural studies, particularly posing the "pre-disciplinary" early
college writing classroom as a space in which to subvert disciplinary
knowledge production and promote an activist critical pedagogy.
Indeed, any space that leverages the disciplinary challenges offered by
writing, rhetoric studies or cultural studies (including, for example,
Post-colonial studies, Disability studies, Diaspora studies and critical
race theory, Performance studies, Gender studies, and Queer theory) may
be an appropriate venue for anti-disciplinary inquiry. Therefore, we
seek essays that use these notions as grounds to think through writing,
writing-intensive, and cultural studies classroom as spaces in which to
challenge the conventional organization and segregation of knowledges
and epistemologies into discrete and highly regulated disciplines.
Essays might fall into or grow outward from any of the following four
categories:
* Theoretical Interventions into Writing and Disciplinarity
* Writing Pedagogy as Anti-disciplinarity Practice
* Writing in the Anti-disciplines
* Writing outside the Disciplines/ Writing outside the Academy
This collection has been solicited by an interested publisher as part of
