MECACS Postgraduate Conference 2006

Revolution and Change in the Islamic World : From the Rise of Islam to =
the Present

University of St. Andrews, Scotland, 6th May 2006

Since the seventh century Arab conquest, Islam has had a major influence =
on all aspects of society in the Middle East and surrounding regions. =
Great empires have risen and fallen but have left their legacies on =
their populations. The current Islamic revival has maintained this =
process of constant change.

This conference seeks to attract papers focusing on the historical, =
political and religious impact of developments in the Islamic world =
including the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. It is hoped that =
each panel will cover a specific subject to highlight the many changes =
that have occurred during this period.

Accommodation on the nights of 5th and 6th May will be provided for five =
external speakers. Both external and internal speakers will receive a =
subsidised dinner on 6th May. Lunch and coffee will be provided for =
all conference participants. The conference will be held in Deans Court: =
a mediaeval residence across from the ruined St. Andrews Cathedral.

Paper proposals of 300-500 words plus a brief biography should be sent =
by 3rd March 2006 to
