Dear Colleagues,
This is an open call for book reviewers for the newly renamed journal, Arab
Media and Society (AMS), formerly Transnational Broadcasting Studies. Arab
Media & Society serves as the primary reference for developments in the Arab
media and their impact on individual Arab countries, Arab society as a whole
and the broader Muslim world.
The journal is jointly published by the Adham Center for Electronic Journalism
at The American University in Cairo and the Middle East Studies Centre at
Oxford. Its co-editors are Adham Center director Lawrence Pintak, Walter
Armbrust of St. Anthony's College, University of Oxford, and Hani Shukrallah of
the al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. Our website is:
http://www.arabmediasociety.org .
Our first issue under the new name will be published in December. The journal
covers all forms of media, including national and pan-Arab television, new
media and traditional newspapers. The style of the journal is serious and
well-researched but readable. Contributors include academics, journalists,
public opinion specialists and other researchers. Built on a solid foundation
of theory, the content focuses on all aspects of the intersection between
media, politics, society and culture. The emphasis is on the practical over the
highly theoretical ? e.g. media and democracy, television's role in shaping
political attitudes, media structural and legal reform, religion and media,
etc. The journal combines peer-reviewed articles with more journalistic
accounts of developments related to the region's media.
AMS plans to publish three to four reviews in each issue. We are looking for
reviews of 700-800 words that both describe and evaluate books, and where
possible, situate the books within the policy and/or scholarly debates within
their fields. Reviews should be well-written, and avoid disciplinary jargon
where possible. We are looking for high quality work, and reserve the right to
reject a review that does not fit our criteria.
If you are interested in reviewing a book for AMS, please send me a brief
message indicating your general areas of interest and expertise, along with a
CV (or a list of relevant publications). Please feel free to forward this
message and distribute to other relevant listservs.
Regards,
