Berlin’s Culturescape in the 20th Century


Call for Papers

In association with Fallada Forum, the Departments of History and International
Languages at the University of Regina invite submissions for a
multi-disciplinary conference entitled Berlin’s Culturescape in the 20th
Century.

Regina, Saskatchewan
Date: Sept.24-26, 2006

The conference will bring together academics and contemporary artists to explore
the connections between literature and politics, the modernising city and urban
cultural expressions, and the search for individual and national identity.  We
invite submissions from all branches of the social sciences, humanities, as well
as the arts.  Graduate students are encouraged to participate.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

    * Berlin in Hans Fallada’s Life and Work
    * Jewish Berlin; Berlin’s Jews
    * Minority Literature: Turks and Immigrants
    * Queer Berlin
    * The Politics of Culture in East and West Berlin
    * “Ich bin ein Berliner”: Identity Crisis?
    * Berliner Frauen
    * Re-unification and Literature

Abstracts must be submitted not later than February 6, 2006 to Culturescape in
the 20th Century Conference, Department of International Languages.
