SOUNDINGS: AN INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL is planning an issue that will
explore the ways in which identity is shaped, nurtured, and frustrated
by the process of recognition. We welcome articles which explore the
theme of recognition from a variety of perspectives, both public and
private. We are especially interested in the ways in which these two
dimensions of human experience intersect, the ways in which public
programs designed to give recognition to groups and individuals have an
impact on our private lives, and vice versa. Deadline for submissions is
August 1, 2005.

We prefer hard copies of all submissions. Please send three copies of
your manuscript along with an electronic file on disk (WordPerfect
preferred, but MS Word acceptable) to:

E-mailed submissions are not encouraged, but you are welcome to direct
any further inquiries to Lauren Todd Taylor, Managing Editor, at
sounding@utk.edu.

SOUNDINGS aims to publish essays that open disciplines to each other,
and we encourage submissions from scholars who sense in such openings
some prospect for greater coherence and amplitude in public discourse.
SOUNDINGS is indexed in the MLA Bibliography as well as the American
Humanities Index, the Arts & Humanities Citation Index, and the Language
and Language Behavior Abstracts.
