Sixth Annual
NEW VOICES GRADUATE CONFERENCE
Georgia State University
October 20-22, 2005
Atlanta, Georgia
Sponsored by the GSU Graduate English Association
The New Voices Conference is a space for cultivating the power of your own
academic voice. It provides an ideal environment for professional
presentation
of your new or recent work, exploring the ideas of others, and forging
scholarly
relationships with colleagues across geographic, genre, and disciplinary
boundaries.
Because our multi-track graduate studies program in English spans a
sophisticated range of disciplines and theoretical positions, we invite
submissions from a variety of perspectives, including:
---LITERATURES IN ENGLISH (American, British, and world literatures from
early
to postmodern)
---CREATIVE WRITING (original works of short fiction, novel, poetry, drama)
---CRITICAL THEORY/CULTURAL STUDIES (Marxist, psychoanalytic, post-colonial,
postmodern, feminist, GLBTQ, race, and other theoretical
explorations/cultural
applications)
---RHETORIC & COMPOSITION (current and emerging language/discourse
studies,
digital/visual rhetorics, composition and writing center theories and
practices)
---PEDAGOGY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (Pedagogical scholarship, trends,
techniques and technologies; professional development in writing,
praxis, and
presentation)
In addition to these, our feature roundtable panel this year focuses on
"Performing Identity." A separate CFP will be posted for this special
panel, and
is also available on our website (address below).
Participation in any session is not limited to graduate students in
English; we
are interested in relevant work that traverses cross-disciplinary
perspectives
(gender/women's studies, communications, psychology, sociology,
anthropology,
etc.).
Because the New Voices Conference is specifically designed for graduate
students, our 3-day program not only includes advanced scholarship, but
social,
creative, and local events and activities in Atlanta, plus economical
choices
for travel, hotel, and transportation. See our website at
