Daniil Pashkoff Prize 2005
We are proud to announce The Daniil Pashkoff Prize for
Creative Writing by a Non-Native Speaker for the fifth
year in a row. The prize, named after the first
Russian student to study English at the Technical
University Braunschweig, is intended to encourage
creative writing in English by writers whose native
language is not English. Especially young people are
invited to submit their work. First prize is 100 ?,
second prize, 75 ?, third prize, 50 ?. Prizes will be
awarded at Buchhandlung Graff, on Friday, May 27th, at
8 p.m.
There are prizes for two groups: 21- and 21+. The
former applies to persons younger than twenty-one, the
latter for persons over twenty-one years of age and
older. Prizes will be awarded for both poetry and
prose fiction. Poetry refers to any work recognizable
as a poem due to rhyme, meter, or arrangement of words
on a page, and may include songs, raps, ballads,
haikus, or prose poems. You must submit at least 30
lines but no more than 100 lines. Thus, if you prefer
short forms, e.g., haiku, you should submit more than
one poem. Prose fiction can refer to short stories,
dramatic sketches, film scripts, or any genre not
written in poetry. You are entitled to submit one
story, no longer than 3,000 words. You may submit
entries in both categories: poetry and prose. There
is no special topic or theme.
We only accept original work that has not been
published elsewhere. When you submit work for
consideration, you also grant Writers Ink. e.V. the
rights for first publication, even though the
permanent copyright remains with the author.
Submit four copies, typed and unsigned, to Writers
Ink. e.V. c/o Dr. L. Guntner, Englisches Seminar, T U
Braunschweig, Bienroder Weg 80, 38106 Braunschweig.
Include as well a sealed envelope with your name,
birth date, address, telephone and email numbers plus
a copy of your text(s) on a disc typed in Microsoft
Word. The deadline is March 31, 2005. Enquiries
should be directed to Dr. Lawrence Guntner at the
address above or to pashkoffprize@.writers-ink.de
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
