NATIONAL CALL FOR PAPERS
The IU English Department Graduate Student Organization invites
submissions on this year's theme of 'Intimacy/Proximity.'

We seek to include a broad range of scholarly and creative presentations
which analyze, theorize, historicize, quantify, or otherwise riff on
subjects related to this year=B9s themes of =B3intimacy=B2 and =B3proximi=
ty.=B2

This year=B9s Keynote Speaker is Dr. Peter Coviello, from the department
of English at Bowdoin College, where he is also chair of the Gay and
Lesbian Studies program. He is the author of =B3Intimacy in America:
Dreams of Affiliation in Antebellum Literature,=B2 from University of
Minnesota Press, and the editor of a new edition of Walt Whitman's Civil
War memoir =B3Memoranda During the War.=B2

Possible topics for inquiry might include (but are certainly not limited
to):
--Histories of sexual, romantic, familial, social, and/or religious intim=
acy
--Proximity and the collapse of categorical and theoretical boundaries
--Intimacy and the World Wide Web
--Cross-cultural contact
--Proximity and trade relations
--Intimacy and the personal essay
--The desiring look and the surveilling gaze
--Intimacy and the body
--Interspecies intimacies and proximities
--Public and private spheres
--Historiography and temporal proximity
--Intimacy and ecology
--Proximity, intimacy and pedagogy

We welcome both individual submissions and pre-formed panels.
Papers or presentations should be approximately 15-20 minutes long.
